In 2009, thanks to grant dollars provided by the Walmart Foundation, the Wyoming FFA Foundation challenged the state’s 2,053 FFA members and 51 FFA Chapters to carry out community service projects in their respective communities. The state’s FFA members rose to the challenge. Wyoming FFA Foundation board members were so pleased with what they saw that they voted to make the program a permanent part of the Wyoming FFA Foundation and a regular offering to Wyoming FFA Chapters.
Now dubbed the “Cameco Cowboy State Challenge,” thanks to the support of Cameco Resources, the nation's largest uranium supplier, over $15,000 will be distributed to Wyoming FFA chapters this year. With those dollars great things are happening across the Cowboy State, like - a new playground at the Albany County Fairgrounds, a community garden in Buffalo and a program to encourage southwest Wyoming residents to replace plastic grocery sacks with the cloth variety. As stated by FFA Foundation Chairman Court Schilt, it's about more than the projects themselves, it's about students realizing they can make a positive difference in the communities they call home.

Making the switch from plastic to cloth is a priority for Jim Bridger FFA members. They've devoted countless hours to giving bags like these away at the local grocery store and encouraging shoppers to make a habit of using them.
Produce grown in Buffalo FFA's garden is used in the school lunch program and in 2012 will also help stock the local food pantry.
